Succesful NZSS for Waikato Schools
As another Senior Secondary School season comes to a close, we reflect on what was a highly succesful campaign down in Palmerston North at the NZSS Senior National Championships.
In the boys’ grade, three teams qualified for Division 1. Well done to Fraser High School, HBHS and Hillcrest High School. This is the first time in Waikato history that 3 boys’ teams have made it to the top division. Special mentions to Hillcrest High School boys who finished 3rd in Division 1 for the 3rd year in a row. Liam Smith and Bjorn Fitch were named to the tournament team for their efforts.
We had three girls’ team compete in various finals. Te Awamutu College finished in 2nd place in the Division 3 grade. This placing helps Waikato secure another seed for the girls’ top 32 next year. Hillcrest High School fought hard in the Division 4 finals to come home with a silver and HGHS played against Long Bay in the Division 5 finals and came home with gold.
Well done to all athletes, coaches and managers for their amazing work this season. On a particular note, it was great to see Waikato schools supporting each other throughout the week.
